Stoney Creek Public School
2024-2025 Safe and Inclusive School Plan
Our school is committed to providing all students with a safe, caring, and
inclusive learning environment free from bullying and harassment that
promotes respect, acceptance, and empathy.

Staff, students, parents and caregivers, and community partners will
work together as a team to help make our school safe and welcoming
for everyone.

The Safe and Inclusive School Plan highlights some of the key actions that our
school community will put in place as part of our bullying prevention and
intervention efforts.

Key Priorities and Goals
This year we are focusing on ensuring all members of our school community feel safe, included, and accepted.

At Stoney Creek, we celebrate and value diversity and teach children to be proud of themselves, their appearance, their families, their beliefs and their traditions. We model and teach children to respect and value everyone. Building positive identities and a respect for differences means weaving diversity into the fabric of children's everyday lives. It means being purposeful about the culturally responsive resources we make available to students, ensuring that they see themselves represented in the books, resources and programming in their classroom, in our library and throughout the school. It means recognizing and celebrating various traditions and celebrations, opening our doors to families and community members to share these with us. It means teaching and engaging in conversations with students about our rich and varied world and cultivating a deep and abiding respect for diversity in our words and in deeds. Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment is connected to student well-being and is a priority that we take seriously at Stoney Creek.

 Key Actions or Strategies

• Engaging our community and families to continue to celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion and these are reflected in both the learning environment and instructional materials, so students see themselves and others.
• Incorporating a social script to assist students in solving conflicts in a manner that encourages student voice while building empathy and respect for others.
• Programs, partnerships and speakers to promote a positive school climate and celebrate our diversity.
• Various initiatives

Community and Home Connections
• Ask your child about using their Stoney Creek words When you...I feel...Can you please...
• Try to discuss different identities with your child to build an understanding of diversity, including diverse perspectives, and teach your child to be proud of themselves, their appearance, their families, their beliefs and their traditions.
• Encourage your child to use their voice by using the Stoney Creek words and reporting ongoing mean or bullying behaviour to an adult. Check out this Stop It, Name It resource that we use to address concern. Also, take a look at Is It Bullying?
